How to get the audience engaged at a corporate event

By David Knutsson · 4 min read

A corporate event competes with the attendee's inbox, deadlines and personal life. To win that fight, the experience has to be built for the attendee — not for the sender.

Start with the audience, not the agenda

What should the attendee feel, know and do after the event? That question has to be answered before the first speaker is booked. Everything else follows from the answer.

Design the breaks as carefully as the talks

A lot of what matters happens between the agenda items. Build in time, space and reasons to meet — not just a queue for coffee.

Bring the audience onto the stage

Live polls, short breakouts, audience questions on the panel — even small interactions break the passivity and move the attendee from spectator to co-creator.
